FOREWORD

The idea for this book came from the acclaimed and successful books 'Facts for Life' and 'All for Health' published jointly by UNICEF,WHO and UNESCO. These books convey vital messages on international child health. In producing this book, the International League of Associations for Rheumatology (ILAR) aims to provide information for people all over the world.

We hope that this book will be of interest to people with aches and pains and their families, and will help health workers in treating and informing them about their disease. For this purpose the basic information is crystallised into key messages.

The book has been written for use throughout the world. ILAR will circulate copies to Regional Leagues against Rheumatism and thence to National Leagues. We hope that National Leagues will encourage further distribution within their countries. They are welcome to adapt and translate the book into local languages. Translation into the official ILAR languages is planned.
ILAR hopes that this book will help all those engaged in the struggle against rheumatic diseases.
